The Story of Evan and Katie

Their story begins way back in 1998, at Santa Clara University. Evan breezed by Katie on his skateboard in front of the Mission Church on his way to a psychology class—the very same class that Katie was in.

Katie, ever the studious one, sat in the front taking meticulous notes. Evan, the effortlessly cool one, sat in the back… pretending to focus while mostly watching Katie.

Through classes, parties, and their overlapping fraternity and sorority circles, they became friends. Evan, looking for any excuse to spend more time with Katie, asked to borrow her psychology notes. Apparently daydreaming about love in class has it's drawbacks. Katie happily obliged—handing them off at the door and sending him on his way, completely unaware of his long-standing crush and plan of being invited in.

Evan once made the questionable choice to drink a Bloody Mary *at night* at their local college bar, The Claran. Katie made fun of him. He still thinks about it.

After graduation, life pulled them in different directions—Katie to Los Angeles, Evan to New York and later the Bay Area. That might have been the end of their story…

Until fate (and The Internet) intervened.

Seventeen years later, in February 2019, Katie was back home in Lake Stevens, entertaining herself during Snowpocalypse by tobogganing down her parents’ driveway. Naturally, she posted the video to Instagram. During a quick detour on his commute home to San Francisco, Evan saw the video and knew he had to shoot his shot.

It was risky. He’d reached out before, with zero response from Katie. But something told him to try one last time, so he closed his eyes and slid directly into her DMs.

Meanwhile, Katie, warm and cozy at home, showed her sister, Amanda, the message. Amanda’s first response? “Is he cute?”

Katie, not having seen Evan in person since college, hesitated. “I think so… at least he used to be.”

And then? She left Evan on read. (Sorry, Evan.)

But after a quick store run for snowstorm provisions, Katie replied. And that one message turned into nonstop texts and phone calls for months.

Finally, Evan booked a trip to Los Angeles. They had their first official date (17 years in the making), and the rest is history.

After a few years of long-distance dating, the pandemic hit. Katie moved to San Francisco with Evan so they could shelter in place together. And when the world opened up again, she convinced Evan to move to LA with her.

Now, they live happily in View Park, Los Angeles, where Evan has fallen in love with the food, the weather, and—most importantly—Katie.

Evan and Katie share a love for travel, having explored 7 states and 13 countries in the 6 years they've been together. In August 2025, they’re thrilled to travel to Washington and celebrate their love with all of you!
